If there’s one thing I know about motherhood, it’s that having a child who can wipe their own bum and put pyjamas on unaided makes it a hell of a lot easier to introduce a newborn into the mix.
My sister and I are three years and three months apart, which translated to four grades growing up, and we have always been extremely close. Never wanted it any other way.
Needed to hear this today. I thought I wanted a chose age gap (my daughter just turned 2) but we’re still not fully ready. Many of our friends are having their second already so we’re surrounded by the 2 under 2 and I keep worrying we’ve made a mistake; but your essay today helped confirm my gut feeling that waiting a little longer is what’s best for myself and my daughter.
I know exactly how you feel. I remember really freaking out when everyone started getting pregnant the second time - it made me feel like there was something wrong with me for not being ready! But I am so, so glad I waited. Listen to your gut!
’m currently thinking about having a second (my daughter is 2 next month) and all I can think about is age gaps and the pros and cons of shorter/longer. I know it’ll all be fine in the end and this post was a reminder of that - thank you!
